Trying to revise the last five chapters of my book…

I have been SWAMPED with freelance work and so my writing time has been nonexistent, but those few stolen hours when I do get to sit down and open Scrivner I just stare at the total mess that my last five chapters are and just want to cry.

I have to wrap it up because I have another revision to start while I’m on vacation in a few weeks.

Time to put my big girl panties on and whip this novel into shape!

Book Review of Gone by Michael Grant

2536134

Hardcover, 576 pages
Published June 24th 2008 by Katherine Tegen Books

Summary:

Except for the young. Teens. Middle schoolers. Toddlers. But not one single adult. No teachers, no cops, no doctors, no parents. Just as suddenly, there are no phones, no internet, no television. No way to get help. And no way to figure out what’s happened.

Hunger threatens. Bullies rule. A sinister creature lurks. Animals are mutating. And the teens themselves are changing, developing new talents—unimaginable, dangerous, deadly powers—that grow stronger by the day.

It’s a terrifying new world. Sides are being chosen, a fight is shaping up. Townies against rich kids. Bullies against the weak. Powerful against powerless. And time is running out: On your birthday, you disappear just like everyone else.

My Thoughts:

I went into this thinking this was a YA book, but it reads much more like an upper MG. I did think this was a great book though!

Summary:

While the other girls in the walled city-state of Baalboden learn to sew and dance, Rachel Adams learns to track and hunt. While they bend like reeds to the will of their male Protectors, she uses hers for sparring practice.

When Rachel’s father fails to return from a courier mission and is declared dead, the city’s brutal Commander assigns Rachel a new Protector: her father’s apprentice, Logan—the boy she declared her love to and who turned her down two years before. Left with nothing but fierce belief in her father’s survival, Rachel decides to escape and find him herself.

As Rachel and Logan battle their way through the Wasteland, stalked by a monster that can’t be killed and an army of assassins out for blood, they discover romance, heartbreak, and a truth that will incite a war decades in the making

My Thoughts:

This book grabbed me from the start and kept me flipping pages. I ended up finishing it one day despite the fact I had three kids running around basically unsupervised 🙂 I found myself completely sold on the characters and the story. Great book!

5 Stars and I definitely recommend it!

Taking a Break

I’ve been plugging away with my revisions on my first novel for the last month – working at least a few hours each day – and kind of just hit a point where I KNEW I needed to step away.

It took some personal drama, but I’ve spent the last 48 hours without even opening my WIP and I think I’ll continue the trend through the weekend.

I just needed a break.

Some time to ingest words instead of expel them. I’ve already read two books in two days and I plan on reading another one by the end of the weekend.

Part of me doesn’t like that I took a weekend off. I have self-imposed deadlines that I want to meet and it just means more work in the future. Oh well.

Time for ice cream and chocolates; comfort food and reading.
