Review of Across the Universe: Beth Revis

Okay, I am not that much of a traditional sci-fi fan. I mean, sure I love Star Wars and even the Star Trek movies, but I’m not one to pick up and read too many alien books, or what I perceived to be alien books. These were not alien books. Actually there are no aliens in them to date, so get that out of your mind if you have doubts. Don’t get me wrong, it is sci-fi: there is a space ship and other space stuff,  but no aliens. Not that I don’t like aliens, there just aren’t any so far.
This was one of those books that at least for me, when I wasn’t reading it, I was thinking about when I could read it.
I REALLY loved it because it incorporated sic-fi, dystopian, fantasy and romance.
I’m giving this one 5 stars and recommending it!

Tortured, a Birthmarked Novella: Caragh M. O’Brian

First off, this is just a short novella that sort of bridges the two books Birthmarked and Prized, even though I would read it AFTER I read Prized, but that’s just me.
The other big thing is that it’s only an e-book and it’s FREE!
So if you liked the Birthmarked series, which I did, download this book!

Legend: Marie Lu

Now this is a fun Dystopian novel. The only bad thing is the world it is set in is really similar to a book I’ve been slowly writing over the last year. I think I missed my chance to get on the dystopian band wagon as the last year it has really hit hard. BUT oh well. I’ll finish my book.
ANYWAYS, this was a really great book! I really, really liked it! I kept seeing it come up in my Amazon suggested reading, but the description seemed so blah until one day I read the reviews and realized that people really liked it. I gave it a try and was so happy that I did. I just wish that it was longer.
I absolutely recommend! Read this book, you won’t be disappointed! (well, for arguments sake you might, but I wasn’t)

Prized: Caragh M. O’Brian

What a fabulous book, but I must say, it’s pretty dark and dreary for a good chunk of the book. I was like, “SERIOUSLY, WHEN WILL THIS CHICK CATCH A BREAK!?” I was pretty emotional during the parts of her newborn sister, but alas, I can’t give anything away. That’s not the point of these here recommendations. You just want the meat of it. Did I like it? YES! I just felt it could have been a bit longer. It wasn’t even 400 pages.
Great book, GREAT set up to book three (grrr) and 5 stars and I recommend!

Heroes of Olympus, Son of Neptune: Rick Riordan

This is seriously one of the best YA fantasty series out there right now, so why don’t more people talk about them? I totally get that the first part of the Percy Jackson series is pretty “middle grade” fiction, so it’s kind of hard for an adult to get hooked, but I pushed through because I enjoyed the cadence of the story. As the series progresses, much like a lot of series, as the characters age, so does the level of the book. That said, this is the 2nd part to the Percy Jackson series and the 2nd in this series Heroes of Olympus (the first was Lost Hero. You’re going to need to read the Percy Jackson series (think Harry Potter meets Greek Mythology), but if you do and you like that series, then this series is WAY better! Same characters and then some. Same crazy gods, but then with a Roman twist. Loved the series and loved this second book!

5 stars and totally recommend.

Summary:

In The Lost Hero, three demigods named Jason, Piper, and Leo made their first visit to Camp Half-Blood, where they inherited a blood-chilling quest:
Seven half-bloods shall answer the call,
To storm or fire the world must fall.
An oath to keep with a final breath,
And foes bear arms to the Doors of Death.

Who are the other four mentioned in the prophesy? The answer may lie in another camp thousands of miles away, where a new camper has shown up and appears to be the son of Neptune, god of the sea.
With an ever-expanding cast of brave-hearted heroes and formidable foes, this second book in The Heroes of Olympus series offers all of the action, pathos, and humor that Rick Riordan fans crave.
